This proves that a certified engineer has the following skills and knowledge.

  • Knowledge of RDBMS and SQL
  • Basic knowledge of open source database
  • Can operate and maintain a small-scale database system using OSS-DB, such as PostgreSQL

  • Can develop a small-scale system using OSS-DB, such as PostgreSQL 

 Prerequisites  Work experience and qualifications are not required to take the exam.

 Testing style

Computer based testing (CBT). 

An examinee answers approximately 50 questions

online using a computer.

Most questions are multiple-choice answered by using a mouse; however, some questions require keyboard entry.

There is no hands-on certification test or interview.

Select a desired date and location freely

from various parts of the country when you apply for the exam.

The duration of the exam is 90 minutes including a simple questionnaire after the exam.

 Taking an exam

Step 1: Register

You must register online to receive an EDUCO identification

number (EDUCO-ID) first.Failure to complete this step

may effect your eligibility for your desired time slot.

Also you must provide your EDUCO-ID to the test centers

when registering for an exam.

Step 2: Schedule to Take an Exam

OSS-DB exams are delivered through a number of

different methods; choose one that's most convenient:

You must provide your EDUCO-ID to the test centers when

registering for an exam. If you do not provide your EDUCO-ID, your exam may not get loaded. 

You can register for OSS-DB exams through one of the thousands of Pearson VUE testing centers worldwide.

Once you have located a convenient Pearson VUE center,

you may schedule to take an OSS-DB exam either online or by phone.

 Step 3: Take the Exam

After Passing the Exam

When you pass "OSS-DB Exam Silver", it means you are certified as "OSS-DB Silver".

 Active certification status
(Recertification policy)

There is no validity period, but there is an "*) active 

certification status (recertification policy)".

To RETAIN an ACTIVE certification status,

a certification holder is REQUIRED to recertify

within 5 years from the certified date.

Or you need to acquire the OSS-DB Gold certification within five years.

 

*) About "Recertification Policy"

 

Once a person is certified by LPI-Japan and receives a

certification designation (OSS-DB Silver, OSS-DB Gold), 

recertification is recommended after two years

from the date of the certification designation to retain a

current certification status. However, to RETAIN an ACTIVE certification status, a certification holder is

REQUIRED to recertify within 5 years of the certification designation.

Recertification requires that the individual candidate

passes all up-to-date exams that are only required for

the highest earned certification designation. 

After successful recertification, the designation status will be updated to ACTIVE for a period of FIVE years.
